Tokistar Lighting

The basic system includes lamp sockets with integral reflectors. When specified with our LED light source, these reflectors are not included. Each socket has four holes to accept mounting screws. Two screws installed at opposing corners provide easy and secure mounting.

How to Specify

To specify the most attractive form of Advantage for an application, determine the appropriate light source and socket spacing from the light sources and installation guidelines sections. Then tailor the system to the specific task by selecting from the listed options and accessories.

Before deciding on the finished product, it is important to note that not all light sources can be used with all options. Take into account these guidelines:

  • Due to the surface temperature of lamps, our 8.5 Watt and cool-white lamps are not for use with AV-LNS lens covers, AV Shielded Channels or Series AVO.

• Symmetrical and asymmetrical reflectors are not for use with AV-LNS lens covers, AV Shielded Channels or Series AVO.

• LED modules do not emit light from below, so there is no symmetrical reflector option with this light source.

• Fixtures with 2.4” socket spacing are not for use in AV Shielded Channels or Series AVO.

• Refer to Installation Guidelines for minimum distances to be maintained between fixtures and combustible surfaces.

Options

Lens Covers
To prevent direct contact with lamps, we offer a protective clear polycarbonate lens. The ends of each lens are open to allow heat to vent. This optional lens cover is not for use with 8.5 Watt or cool white xenon lamps.
Part #: AV-LNS

Mounting Channel
A high-temperature plastic mounting channel is available for straight runs. The channel is screwed in place and the sockets snapped in, ensuring linear integrity of the fixture and reducing installation time.
Part #: AV-MC

Symmetrical Reflector
For applications where a more concentrated beam of light is needed, these reflectors easily snap onto our sockets. They may be used with or without our mounting channel, increasing light output toward the center line of the fixture.
Part #: AVWH-REF-S (White)
Part #: AVBK-REF-S (Black)

Asymmetrical Reflector
For showcase and shelf lighting applications, these reflectors direct light output to one side. They also absorb and deflect heat from the surface next to the fixture, and may be used with or without our mounting channel.
Part #: AVWH-REF-A (White)
Part #: AVBK-REF-A (Black)

Black Finish
Although most Advantage Systems are concealed behind moldings and ledges, there are applications where the fixture may be exposed to direct view. Advantage is available in a high-tech black finish to complement such installations.
Option Code: BK

Design Guidelines
Quality indirect lighting requires a seamless flow of light. Proper spacing between sockets is the key factor in achieving this goal. Surface finish also has an influence. A matte white finish inside the cove and on the reflective surface is best. A glossy surface will reflect lamp images, no matter how closely the sockets are spaced.

Socket Spacing

Recommended socket spacing varies, depending on how close the fixture is positioned from the reflective surface. Maintain the minimum distances shown to eliminate socket shadows and hot spots. More lamps will produce more light, but they will not always produce more uniform light.

The following are some of the most popular applications of Advantage, including helpful tips on how different variations can produce the best results:

Cove Lighting
Where Advantage is placed inside a cove will produce different effects. If the fixture is placed close to the cove fascia, it will trap more light in the cove and create a sharper contrast of light. Positioning the fixture closer to the wall will illuminate more of the ceiling and create a softer gradation of light

Wall Washing
Advantage's small configuration makes it an ideal source for illuminating from within niches and behind cornices. For more impact, consider specifying our symmetrical reflectors to concentrate more light in a focused direction.

Under Counter
When positioned under a countertop, Advantage will produce a soft glow of light on the wall behind it. To prevent direct contact with lamps, consider specifying our AV-LNS lens covers.

Showcase/Shelf Lignting
Advantage may be used to softly illuminate fine art and other artifacts. Fixtures may be placed under shelves or positioned vertically at either side of a cabinet. To direct and conceal light, consider specifying our asymmetrical reflectors.

Under Cabinet Lighting
Fixtures may be positioned behind the lips of cabinets to direct light down onto a countertop. If the fixture requires shielding, consider specifying an Advantage Shielded Channel with continuous lens cover.

Accessories

End Caps
Mounting Screws
Channel Clamps
Part #: ECD-WH (White)
Part #: ECD-BK (Black)
Part #: AV-MS
Part #: AV-CL

These end caps are attached to the end of each fixture to insulate the conductors.
Each lamp socket of Advantage has four mounting holes. Use two screws in opposing corners for secure mounting.
The clamps screw in place and the channel snaps in.

Terminal Block Connectors (Part #: AV-CONN)

One end of this connector screws directly to the Advantage fixture. The other end accepts AWG# 14, 12, or 10 wire. A screw hole is provided in the center of the connector for secure mounting.

Mini Junction Box Connectors (Part #: AV-JBOX)

If installation involves running wire through a building structure, special wiring methods to the fixture may be required by code. A miniature junction box is available with a 1/2”Ø knockout for use with conduit fittings.

  T-Connection System (Part #: AV-TCON)

For feeding multiple fixtures from one wiring harness, these connectors are a great convenience. Female connectors are attached to the main harness at any interval, and the mating male connectors attach to the end of each fixture.

Transformers

Magnetic Transformers

Tokistar magnetic transformers are for operation from a 120 VAC/60 Hz input and are fully dimmable. The 24 Volt secondary outputs have inherent circuit protection. Magnetic transformers are provided in enclosures rated Nema 3R and are suitable for wet locations.
Larger capacity transformers are provided with magnetic breakers, preventing the possibility of nuisance tripping in heat-sensitive settings. Sizes and weights shown are approximate and subject to change without notice.

Electronic Transformers

Tokistar electronic transformers are for operation from a 120 VAC/60 Hz input. These transformers run cooler and are very compact. They are ideal for use in heat-sensitive applications where space is limited.

Electronic transformers have auto-reset short circuit protection. They require a minimum load of 50 Watts, and may be used with standard incandescent dimmers. They are for dry locations only.

Electronic transformers are not for use with LED modules.
